Why can’t I assign a membership to a member even though it should be paid by their spouse/partner?

 

Short answer

It’s not a bug. For member A to pay member B’s membership, you must have both on B’s profile:

  1. a correct family link/relationship, and

  2. the Paid by field set to the payer.
    If only the family link exists and Paid by isn’t set, assigning the membership to B can fail.


Where to set it (exact places in the profile)

  • Members → Member Management → open the beneficiary’s profile

  • General tab → Family section → click Add (+) or Edit

  • In the pop-up:

    • Relationship with member: choose the correct relationship (e.g., Spouse/Partner)

    • Select a member: choose the payer

    • Paid by: select the payer again (this is the key field)

    • Click Confirm

Key point: The Paid by field must point to the person who pays. A family link alone isn’t enough.
