Why am I seeing many credit-card payment errors, and how can I prevent card expirations?

 

Short answer

This isn’t necessarily a bug. Most errors come from insufficient funds / card limit reached, an expired card, or incorrect payment details.
You can see the exact reason by hovering over the error in the payments/transactions list.

Turn on the credit-card expiry reminder

To reduce failures caused by expired cards, enable the built-in automation:

Path: Communications → Automation Lists → Payments → Credit card expiring
Enable the automation and review recipients and the message.

Best practices

  • Ask the member to update their card as soon as they get the notice.

  • Make sure the member’s email/SMS info is valid so they receive the reminder.

  • When an error occurs, read the on-hover description to decide the right action (insufficient funds, expired card, incorrect data).
